WHAT: Waverley Hills wine jellies
WHO? Situated between Wolseley and Tulbagh, Waverley Hills farm belongs to the the Du Toit family. Their most famous export is their range of organic wine. The vineyards are irrigated with spring water from the local Witzenberg mountain and aren’t treated with any pesticides, herbicides or ominous-sounding additives. Other famous exports include their cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and health-boosting grape seed extract.
WHY? The panel were well impressed with these novel wine jellies – delicious, smooth and perfectly set. So perfect in fact, that they were sceptical whether the jellies were made without any help of artificial preservatives. Upon phoning the friendly folk at Waverley Hills, the mystery was explained to Anna - the only ingredients used are the estate’s organic tipple, sugar and citrus pectin (a completely natural thickening agent). As Anna rightfully noted post chat, “These guys deserve to win. Their dedication is inspiring, not to mention that it’s hard to be this glamorous and innovative within the organic section.”

How to enjoy it:
• Dollop on wafer-thin slivers of roast game birds, like quail.

• Make a glam ham sandwich with slices of cold roast gammon and white wine jelly.

• Enjoy as with strong cheddar and caramelised onions on crackers as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
