Just want to give you a bit of feedback about the Eat In/RMB Private Banks Produce Awards ceremony - it was a fun-filled, happy occasion held at Shoga restaurant in Cape Town. Award winning chef, Mike Bassett, wowed one and all with an 10 course tasting menu prepared using only local produce - from West coast salt and Stellenbosch oil, to organic micro herbs, crocodile bacon and a myriad delicious cheeses. Everyone drank copious amounts of wonderful Boschendal and Bellingham wines, not to mention the odd bottle of Pierre Jourdan bubbly! The feedback to both the new issue of Eat In and the awards has been fantastic with all and sundy rushing to interview our winners. Steve Botha, aka The Magic Man, has been approached by Woolworths to supply them with a range of his incredible micro leaves and herbs and orders for the other winner products are flying in.

Next year we hope to make the awards bigger and better and we need your help -please nominate you favourite outlets, products and producers as per the categories listed.

The awards lunch also marked the launch of the 2007 issue of Eat In, South Africa's undisputed ‘foodie' guide on home eating and entertaining. The directory (which lists the country's best bakeries, delis, butcheries, fishmongers, spice emporia, organic food producers and more) has over 600 entries. You will also find new features that make home entertaining a piece of cake - like 'Deli Does It', which ties in the idea of buying (with the help of the directory) the very best ready-to-eat produce and blending it with raw ingredients. 'Sofa so Good' presents quick and delicious recipes to cook and eat at home while curled up on the sofa - couch potatoes never had it so good! And you can explore the personal tastes of six well-known foodies - including Peter Goff-Wood, Dumi Ndlovu and Tom Hughes - in Cooking the Books, where they name their favourite cookbook and recipe.

The glossy annual is on sale now at selected Woolworths stores, CNA, Exclusive Books, Spar, Checkers, airport bookstores, farm stalls, delis and wine shops, for R34.95.
