Vote for your favourite local blog

Have you ever found yourself staring at a website or blog, wishing you could climb into it? I have. Often. Just last week I stumbled upon Roost and instantly fell in love. There’s something about the moody photography, drool-worthy food, simple design and gentle tone that I find irresistible. And when I discovered that the author was committed to a grain-free lifestyle, I was completely smitten. You see, I am on week four of my new wheat-free life and need all the encouragement and inspiration I can get.

(It’s not easy if beautiful cupcakes, choc-chip cookies and macaroons magically appear in the office… Emma, you will be missed, but your cookies not!)

Roost joins a growing list of pretty food blogs that I visit when I have the time. My other current favourites include Sweet Paul, Lottie and Doof, Eat Make Read, Joy the Baker and Delicious Days.

And I’m not even talking about the beautiful local blogs!

Love them or loathe them, food blogs have changed our lives immeasurably. And frankly, brands such as ours can’t ignore them. In fact, we need to interact with, investigate, celebrate, educate and enjoy them. This is partly why we decided to introduce a new category in this year’s Eat In DStv Food Network Produce Awards for best local food blog. We want to recognise local bloggers that are doing their bit to uplift local produce and small producers – and encourage more of them to do so.

Ten blogs have been nominated and will now be voted for by you. So make sure you head to our voting page and cast your vote! The winner will be announced at our second annual Eat In market on 24 March at the Stellenbosch Slowmarket.

Happy voting and shopping!

Hi Anelde, I have been gluten and wheat free for almost 2 years, and have trawled all the relevant blogs, cookbooks and health food shelves! If I can be of any help by recommending cookbooks or recipes, please let me know. I have lots of tips and literally hundreds of recipes that are suitable, I prefer recipes that are naturally wheat and gluten free, as I have found that they taste best, but I have successfully adapted many others. The only area which I have not conquered is bread making, except for a soda bread recipe, which works rather well. I am lucky however to be living in Ireland where 1 in 10 people are found to have coeliac disease, so ingredients are readily available and restaurants are used to serving us.

    Good luck!
    Elena x
